Extremely rare find! This is “The American Carousel” by renowned carousel artist Tobin Fraley, produced by Willitts Galleries, Petaluma CA. Item #5973. What makes this piece truly one of a kind is the commemorative plaque on the base reading:
“LET HIM EAT CAKE!”
70th Birthday Commemorative
November 13, 1994
— Tobin Fraley signature
This appears to be a special commemorative edition created for Tobin Fraley’s own 70th birthday celebration — not a standard retail release. The piece appears new in original styrofoam packaging, still in original plastic wrap and never displayed.
Plays two tunes: “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “The Four Seasons.” Features a carousel horse mounted before a beautifully hand-painted Wurlitzer-style band organ with wood base. Base has two minor surface scratches — the only sign this was ever out of packaging.
Outer box shows wear. Interior packaging and piece are pristine.
19 x 12 x 16 and close to 14 pounds!!
