Someone kept everything. That’s the only way to explain this collection — decades of Akron and Summit County history, clipped and saved and stored together, now spread out like a timeline of a place that mattered.
The anchor of the lot is the original blue vinyl Sesquicentennial Editions portfolio of the Akron Beacon Journal, along with multiple special edition papers including the 1975 “The Boom Was Fantastic!” rubber industry series, The Summit County Beacon Sesquicentennial reprint in its own protective sleeve, and the 1990 Beacon Journal special section marking 150 years of Summit County. Also included: the May 1980 Beacon Journal special supplement on Mount St. Helens, The Spirit of Akron booklet, a “Headlines in History” commemorative Pearl Harbor reprint, a Norton Apple Festival flyer, loose clippings, and more.
A deep, varied Ohio history archive — the kind a local historian, library, or serious collector would spend years assembling. All items show age toning consistent with their decades; collection is intact and substantial. Commemorative reprints are noted as such and are not represented as original period newspapers.
