She’s been around long enough to earn her cracks. This is a vintage composition baby doll from the 1930s or 1940s — the kind made before plastic took over, when doll bodies were pressed from sawdust and glue and painted by hand. The face still holds its detail: side-glancing painted black eyes with white highlights, rosy cheeks, a small red pursed mouth. The molded hair has that characteristic wave that composition dolls of the era all seem to share.
She wears what appears to be her original muslin diaper and matching booties with knit lace trim and tiny tied bows — fragile with age but intact, which is increasingly rare. Jointed at the shoulders, head turns. Approximately 10” tall. Unmarked — no maker’s stamp visible on the body.
Crazing and surface cracking on the face and body are consistent with composition’s natural aging and are expected at this age. She’s a project doll for a restorer, or a display piece for a collector who appreciates the wear as part of the story.
