Before the theme parks arrived and rewrote the map, Florida sold itself on sunshine, sand, and 1,016 miles of beach. This early 1960s pictorial vacation guide captures the Sunshine State in its golden mid-century tourism era — and it opens with a personal welcome letter signed by Governor Farris Bryant, dating it firmly to his term in office (1961–1965).

Inside, full-color and black-and-white photography walks you through Florida’s beaches from the Miracle Strip to Miami, the Florida Keys, Vizcaya in Miami, Seminole village life, Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Kissimmee rodeos, Busch Gardens flamingos, and Daytona Beach when you could still drive your car to the water’s edge. Not a single theme park in sight.
