An extensive vintage photograph archive of over 100 pieces, telling the story of one Akron, Ohio family across several generations. The collection is centered on Betty Donahue, whose partial photo album (20+ images identified in her own hand) anchors the archive, along with two smaller albums documenting her children’s lives in later years. Betty was related to Roy and Bob Donahue and married to Oscar; their story is documented here through home portraits, vacation snapshots, and candid moments with a close circle of friends, including Joan and Betty Finley, who appear repeatedly throughout the collection. Later photographs include another Betty and her children, including a son named Ed.
The archive also carries the family’s World War II history in depth. One member served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Newcomb (DD-586), pictured at his battle station as main battery director in 1945, along with a group photo of fellow crew members aboard ship. Roy Donahue is pictured in Austria with fellow servicemen Cpl. McGuirk and Sgt. Pitts, both identified on the reverse of the photograph. Two original Akron Public Schools report cards for Betty Donahue (1938–39 and 1940–41, Kent School) are included, along with vacation photographs believed to be from Rye Beach and San Diego and everyday snapshots of Akron family life, including Bettys husband Oscar as a young man in a basketball uniform reading “Happy Days.”
In total: 76 loose photographs, one partial album with 20+ identified images, and two additional albums documenting the next generation. This is a rare, largely intact multi-generational family archive with names, dates, and relationships already identified — ideal for genealogy researchers, local Ohio historians, or collectors of vernacular American photography.
Condition notes (unchanged, disclose upfront): age-related wear consistent with a 70–90 year old collection — foxing/toning, some silvering typical of vintage RC paper, soft or torn corners on a handful of pieces. The main album has page cracking and a few empty photo-corner mounts. Report cards show expected toning but are fully legible. Sold as-is, as pictured.
