The pose nods to a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment from the 1944 short “What’s Cookin’ Doc,” where Bugs launches into the routine for all of three seconds — the kind of throwaway gag that only a true animation fan would recognize, which is exactly the audience Hallmark was courting with this one.
Bugs himself needs no introduction: he made his official debut in 1940’s “A Wild Hare,” a role that landed him the first of three Academy Award nominations and launched one of the most enduring characters in American animation. This piece was sculpted by Robert Chad, one of Hallmark’s longtime staff artists, and issued as part of the brand’s Looney Tunes ornament series — a line that’s remained a steady favorite among both Hallmark Keepsake collectors and Looney Tunes fans.
