Original November 7, 1981 Canton McKinley vs. Massillon Washington High School football program from the historic rivalry game played at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
An especially interesting piece of Ohio football history because the Massillon roster includes brothers Rick Spielman and Chris Spielman during the same season.
Rick Spielman is listed as #15, Senior, Quarterback, while younger brother Chris Spielman appears as #33, Sophomore, Linebacker.
This particular game has additional historical significance. Rick Spielman quarterbacked Massillon and scored the Tigers’ only touchdown on a 21-yard run. Canton McKinley ultimately won the closely contested game 9-6 before a crowd of 22,828, completing a perfect 10-0 regular season.
Chris Spielman would later become an All-American and Lombardi Award winner at Ohio State and an NFL All-Pro linebacker, best known for his years with the Detroit Lions. Rick Spielman later built a long career as an NFL executive.
The program therefore represents an unusual piece of pre-college Spielman football memorabilia, documenting both brothers together during Rick’s senior and Chris’s sophomore seasons.
Condition: Good vintage condition overall with notable coffee/liquid staining to the lower portion of the front cover and some corresponding staining visible on an interior advertising page. General age-related handling and wear may also be present. The interior pages, including the important Rick and Chris Spielman roster listings, remain clean, intact and clearly readable.
