Unusual vintage handmade folk-art souvenir doll couple, each measuring approximately 6 inches tall. Constructed primarily from wrapped yarn/thread, fabric and small natural-material details, the pair depicts a traditionally dressed man and woman and remains intentionally connected by a string between their hands.
The male figure wears dark trousers with a red waist sash and carries a long wooden staff or pole. The female figure has an especially elaborate costume with a full red yarn skirt decorated with colorful floral accents, patterned bodice, miniature shoes and woven-style headpiece.
Of particular interest is the word “VLANA” apparently stitched into the woman’s skirt. Vlana is documented as a historic/variant place name for present-day Vlahën in northeastern Albania, near the Kosovo border. The construction and costumes are broadly consistent with Balkan folk-tourist traditions; however, the dolls are unmarked and their precise geographic origin has not been conclusively established, so they are being described conservatively as Balkan folk art.
Vintage condition with age-related wear, fuzzing, loose fibers/threads and minor irregularities inherent to their handmade construction. Their connecting string remains intact. Please review photographs closely.
