Wonderful vintage handmade folk-art doll depicting a traditionally dressed mother carrying a baby on her back.
Standing approximately 8.5” tall on its original red wooden base, the figure features a hand-painted face, long braided yarn hair, felt hat, colorful woven and embroidered textiles, wrapped legs and handmade sandals. A tiny baby peers over the mother’s shoulder beneath its own textile covering.
The underside retains an unusually helpful stamped artisan/workshop marking reading in part “ARTESANIAS / Lucio J. Alvarez M.” with additional partially legible location/numerical information. Exact country and workshop location have not been conclusively identified.
Vintage handmade condition with expected age and handling wear, including textile fuzzing, dust/soiling, paint wear and wear to the wooden base. ** Hat comes off mom and can be glued back on. See photos.
