Fantastic pair of vintage wall candleholders created from authentic wooden weaving loom shuttles, retaining much of their original textile-mill hardware and character.
Each long hardwood shuttle features its original internal wooden bobbin/spool assembly, metal shuttle mechanism and brass-toned plate, with a brass candle cup mounted to the front. The pointed shuttle shape makes these especially striking as industrial, primitive, folk-art or textile-inspired wall decor.
The shuttles retain multiple original factory/industrial markings burned or stamped into the wood, including a Stehed-Co Control marking, additional numbers/letters, and a small pictorial maker/control mark. One also retains an old retail inventory label reading “PR SPOOL CANDLEHOLDERS” dated 08/14/97, indicating that the pair had already been converted to candleholders by 1997.
Approximately 17 inches long and about 5½ inches deep at the candleholder projection. Please refer to photos for measurements.
These appear to have begun life as functional textile weaving equipment and were later creatively repurposed into a matched pair of wall sconces. The exact age of the original shuttles is unknown, so they are being described as vintage rather than making an unsupported antique-date claim.
Condition: Vintage repurposed condition with expected age and use wear to the wooden shuttle bodies, metal components and brass-toned surfaces, including scratches, patina, discoloration and other signs of their former industrial life. The 1997 paper inventory label is partially torn. Please review photographs closely as they are part of the condition description.
