Wonderful one-of-a-kind handmade Christmas schoolroom diorama dating to 1979, complete with its original handwritten presentation inscription.
The miniature wooden scene features a little holiday figure wearing a hand-knit red and white cap beside a Christmas tree, tiny wrapped presents and toy drum. Behind the figure is a blackboard hand-lettered:
“Happy Holidays Happy Holidays.”
The underside is handwritten:
“To: Mrs. Spillman
From: Missy Taylor
Christmas 1979”
The personalized inscription gives this piece especially charming provenance and preserves the story of what was almost certainly a handmade Christmas gift created for a teacher.
Condition: The figure’s feet have come loose from the wooden floor and need to be reglued. The figure remains present and can be repositioned. There is additional age-related wear, dust, surface marks and handmade irregularity throughout consistent with a nearly 50-year-old craft piece. Please review all photos closely.
