This vintage framed reproduction of Carl Spitzweg’s The Cactus Lover captures one of the artist’s wonderfully eccentric domestic scenes, with an older gentleman pausing among stacks of papers to admire a cactus beside a sunlit window. It has that quietly strange, bookish old-world character that makes Spitzweg’s work so memorable.
The original work dates to approximately 1855 and is associated with Spitzweg’s Biedermeier-period genre painting.
Overall framed size is approximately 14” x 8.5”.
This is a decorative reproduction rather than an original work of art. The image appears mounted or printed on a heavier board/paper-type material and is housed in a gold-tone and dark wood-look frame.
Vintage preowned condition with visible age and wear. There are several small white surface marks/spots to the lower right portion of the image as shown, along with typical frame wear. Writing on the reverse appears to include a date or ownership notation. Please review photos closely.
