A small group of original Japanese festival photographs from 1970 captures dancers, costumes, nighttime festivities, and the energy of a street celebration in Shikoku, Japan. Rather than polished tourist imagery, these feel like little pieces of somebody’s actual travels, which is exactly what makes them interesting.
The lot includes four vintage photographs plus two round illustrated paper souvenirs featuring a traditional Japanese face and decorative motifs. I would not call the round pieces stickers because we don’t know that they were originally adhesive. They may have been labels, seals, coasters, or souvenir paper pieces.
Several photographs are stamped on the reverse “’70 SHIKOKU” along with Japanese lettering, providing a nice period identifier.
Condition is vintage and shows age-related wear, including some discoloration, surface marks, writing/stamps on the backs, and handling wear. The round paper pieces no longer have any noticeable adhesive quality.
A great little grouping for a collector of Japanese ephemera, travel memorabilia, festival photography, folk culture, or 1970s paper collectibles.
